ENGAGING COMMUNITY IN ENVISIONING A LANDMARK

Just below one of the most bustling streets on New York City’s Lower East Side sits an underground trolley terminal, unused since 1948. The one-acre site, which still exhibits semblances of its original architectural charm, has been identified by a team of civic-minded individuals as a future public park called the Lowline. Equipped with an innovative solar technology, designer James Ramsey of Raad Studio and his Lowline co-founder Dan Barasch, have envisioned the first solar-powered subterranean park, slated to launch in 2018.
